Guides' Profile - Serene 

Visually impaired since she was a young child, Serene was previously employed as a masseur and part-time telephone operator. She spent the majority of her time at home and seldom ventured out alone to meet people. Being employed as a guide at DiD is the first job she has undertaken after marriage. She has two children in primary school.

Serene feels that she has gained more self confidence and is more at ease when travelling alone. In addition, she has changed from being a reserved person to someone who is adept in conversational and communication skills.

Serene has also learned how to cater to the needs of different visitors. For example, some visitors may feel insecure in a pitch dark environment. Thus, she always aims to distinguish the quivering voices from the composed ones and puts those who are uncertain at ease quickly.
